How it WorksThe Big IdeaOf course you love your teens. You’re just not too sure they’re in the best hands once they get behind the wheel. The fact is, 16 to 19 year olds have a bumpy track record when it comes to driving. Despite what they tell you, they still need someone to watch over them. You.
The DetailsThis one of a kind Teen Driver Protection Program is an opportunity for you to partner with your teen on the road to becoming a safer driver. As part of the Steer Straight membership, you will be placing “How’s My TEEN Driving?” stickers on the vehicles your teenager drives. Steer Straight provides each member with two (2) stickers each with our toll free number, 1-877-Steer17, and identical ID numbers. By using this sticker you are encouraging the public to look after your teen and to report what they see – the good and the sketchy. Phone-ins are answered live 24/7 by Steer Straight trained professionals. The Steer Straight call center then generates an incident report, which is sent via email within fifteen minutes to the member family along with a link for suggested online corrective training - the Steer Straight “Teen Test Drives.” There is also the option to have a SMS text message sent to your cell phone alerting you that an incident report has been emailed. The Steer Straight “Teen Test Drives” online interactive training modules are available 24/7 in both English and Spanish. By logging on to http://steerstraight.com and using your user ID and password you can access this online training. Modules include: National Safety Council Collision – Prevention Tips, Aggressive Driving, Distracted Driving, Improper Lane Change, Red Lights and Stop Signs, Speeding, Tailgating, and Impaired Driving. An optional test is available at the conclusion of these educational modules. Teen empowering is the key to success with the Steer Straight membership. Effective counseling results in safer driving behavior, decreased collision rates, and most importantly saved lives. Talking with your teen driver every time an incident report is emailed to you lets your teen know that safety is the priority. Steer Straight Program Costs: Why It WorksFocus group teens have said they like the idea of a “How’s My TEEN Driving?” sticker on their car because it can offer them help in dealing with the difficult situations and/or the “peer pressures” associated with teen driving. Let your teen know that you are looking out for their safety. Look at the statistics.
These studies have also proven that these stickers can: Save Lives; Increase Safety; and Save Money. Steer Straight wants all teens to become models of safety for the general public and we consider Steer Straight an important part of the continuing efforts to increase safety and save lives.
